Meet Emmanuel...

...aged 26, a husband and father, who has lived with a facial tumor for 12 years. Bullied and facing discrimination throughout his life because of his appearance, he quit school and faced challenges finding work. Any attempts for medical help in his home country, Rwanda, were met with obstacles and refusal.

Then he remembered hearing about Ubuntu Clinique many miles away. He relocated and went to great lengths to find Jackson, Ubuntu’s founder and director. Emmanuel had to quit his job in order to access life-changing surgery, which was successfully performed at Ubuntu Clinique a week after a “chance” meeting with Jackson.

Now recovering and free from pain, he dreams of working with his hands and contributing to his community. Although he faces financial challenges, Emmanuel's resilience, intelligence, and gratitude propel him with hope for a better future.

Canadian Ubuntu board chair, Janet Schmidt interviewed Emmanuel while on a 2024 trip to Ubuntu Clinique, Burundi, and was impressed with Emmanuel’s quiet tenaciousness.

Thank you for your support of Ubuntu Clinique which makes life-saving medical interventions and social support like this possible!
